I’ve been spending some time over at The Literature Network, a database of books in the public domain. I started with the first author on the list, a certain Henry Brooks Adams, who as it turns out was a descendant of former US presidents John Quincy Adams and John Adams. The book is entitled Democracy, [...]

Psalm 58:6-11
6 Break the teeth in their mouths, O God;
tear out, O LORD, the fangs of the lions!
7 Let them vanish like water that flows away;
when they draw the bow, let their arrows be blunted.
8 Like a slug melting away as it moves along,
like a stillborn child, may they not see the sun.
9 Before your [...]

Though many people think his voice is annoying, or that he strings together a bunch of nonsense for the sake of rhyme, I’m a pretty big fan of MC Paul Barman. He’s the best Ivy League Jewish rapper that I’ve ever heard. There’s a video over at http://www.tinkin.com, political black humour at its most psychedelic. [...]

Upcoming?
I’m editing the College of Engineering brochure, so the second edition should be error free! The contents are the sort of self-congratulatory, but otherwise relatively objective and descriptive pieces of writing that you’d expect from a college pamphlet. Thus, I was quite surprised to read this statement from the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, [...]

Asah! Youtube user Yasassin has done us all a great favor by posting some amazing Korean music videos, many of them from the 1960’s and 70’s. I haven’t made it through all of them yet but here are a few of my favorites so far:
A Korean rendition of YMCA by 조경수 (Jo Gyeong Soo) featuring [...]

A lot of people are scared of going to the doctor’s office. They feel apprehensive about being poked and prodded by cold hands and metal objects. Robot Cyberknife eases your fears by taking away some of the mystery. You know exactly what you’re getting: a large robot arm is going to cut you open, presumably [...]

Oh man I really need to get my hands on a digital camera. I saw an advertisement in the subway yesterday for 원할모니 보쌈(Halmony-bossam) that made me laugh out loud. The ad had MSG emblazoned in bold lettering across the top along with a statement concerning the wellbeing-ness of the food. Inset is a [...]

In the bathroom at my work there is a single bar of soap. Some people use it, many don’t. I used it twice but never again after what I saw the other night. On my way out of the building I stopped in for a number one and there he is, 아저씨 Mr. Security Guard, [...]

I’ve been studying Korean for the past week or so and one of the tips I found to help memorize vocabulary involved associating a picture, word or story with a newly learned word.
얼굴 (ul-ghoul) — face — sounds like ugly especially when Koreans say ul-ghoul-lee
Usually I find it easier to just memorize by rote [...]
